Collection

The collection will exist of antique clocks and pocket watches as well as other chronometric objects like clock repairing tools, literature and restoration archives.

Organization

The Dutch foundation of chronometric collections (STCN), which increases and improves knowledge about chronometry, has created the Tijdmuseum (Dutch Time Museum). The STCN is a collaboration between the foundation of museum and archive of chronometry (SMAT) and the foundation of the museum of Dutch timepieces (SMNU) and since November 4th, 2015 the board of the SMAT and the SMNU is formed by the STCN.

‘Boom-Time’ foundation and ‘De Oude Tijdwijzer’ foundation have also joined the Tijdmuseum.

Objectives

  • Cooperation

    Promoting the cooperation between different chronometric organizations in the Netherlands and improving the conservation of the heritage in this field

  • Knowledge

    Broadening peoples knowledge about chronometry in all its facets and calling attention to the Dutch heritage of social, cultural and technical aspects of time measurement

  • Familiarization

    Familiarizing visitors of all ages, backgrounds and interests with the influence time has on human functioning and with the consequences the evolvement in time measurement have on our daily life

  • International Trade

    Bringing attention to the influence time measurement has on international trade and the special role the Netherlands have played in this

  • Brilliance

    Conveying the brilliance that goes in to building and developing clocks and the influence time has on daily life

Het Tijdmuseum

Somewhere in the Netherlands a Het Tijdmuseum will be opened about the interesting concept of time. This new museum aims to be the place in the Netherlands where one can travel through time.
